Opinions on Aubrey Plaza in Season 11?
Anonymous

I like Aubrey Plaza and it seems she and Gubler are friends.

I don’t know if I like the idea of Reid being a damsel in distress or of him having yet another tragic situation with his love life. He can’t seem to catch a break.

I’ll just have to wait and see how it turns out.

is there a source for reid being absent or having reduced screentime in the upcoming episodes, or is this an assumption you've made based on the fact MGG went on holiday
Anonymous

It’s a mixture of confidential sources confirming the absence and the fact that Matthew was on the east coast during the filming of episodes 9 and 10 and the wardrobe person, BJ Rogers said that Matthew would be back in episode 11.

Reblog
is reids drug addiction entirely in the past? or does he relapse (sorry, i couldnt find this in the faq either it isnt there or i missed it)
Anonymous

Reid never relapsed and the drug issue has been dropped. Erica Messer mentioned that there was a story they wanted to touch on for a character but that the actor didn’t want to go there again because it was no longer being written by the “cool kid writers”.

Fans have speculated that it was Matthew nixxing the drug storyline- and that was the excuse used for not giving Reid an arc in season 10.

Reid’s hiatus

So, episode 7 set up the offscreen arc for Reid that will explain his absence for the next 3 episodes. He will likely have a cameo in episode 8 and will then be missing entirely from episodes 9 and 10. The excuse is that something is wrong with Reid’s mother and he is going to visit her. Not really sure what he can do for her that the doctor’s can’t, but my only guess is that there is something other than schizophrenia as the cause– that is, if t he writers actually bother to delve in to it. Basically its just a cover story because Matthew Gray Gubler took the entire month of October off and spent a good chunk of his time on the east coast and was not available for filming. He wouldn’t have had that time unless he negotiated for it, so I’m happy for him that he apparently had a good time, but I will miss his character on the show. It’s going to make episode 8 even tougher to watch since it is written by my least favorite writer on the show. It’s going to make episode 9 sad because it has the writer who seems to write for him the best and he’s not there. Can’t say I can really blame the guy if he wanted some time off after 11 years of murder and mayhem.

I wish I could think there was going to be some actual on-screen arc for him this season, but I highly doubt it– which is a shame because with the ratings dropping, I suspect this may be the last or second to last season for the sh ow. If it doesn’t get canceled this season, I won’t be surprised if it doesn’t make it another full season after.

I know that sounds glum, but the show has been dying for quite awhile now and I don’t think anything can save it.

I’m almost afraid to admit it, but I’ll be happy for his time off.

I don’t mind Reid, but I do think that the show spends too much time on his character, at the expense of the other characters, but  especially that of Morgan or JJ. Reid has had an arc every single season, the show has been focusing on him overly much for far too long.

Now don’t get me wrong, I have the same issue with how much time she show’s been wasting on Hotchner’s storylines.

so since Morgan is my fave character, my hope is that Reid’s time off, will finally allow us to see a bit more of Morgan, and allow him more of a storyline for a change, since he really hasn’t had any of that, since we first found out that he was a victim of sexual abuse.

This is just incorrect. There have been seasons where Reid had no arcs at all. In season 7 he was not even listed in the “Seven Stories” thing and Strauss actually got a story instead of him. He has been wallflowered for years and his screentime keeps diminishing. He was in an episode for literally less than 3 minutes last season. Meanwhile, JJ had about 3 times the screentime that he did. She had more screentime than every other team member last season. Reid isn’t taking screentime or focus from anyone else. The unsubs are taking the screentime. Unsubs accounted for more screentime in the episodes than all of the team members.

Hotch hasn’t had a decent story in awhile and has been disappearing partway through episodes. Morgan has actually had more focus and screentime, but JJ had more. Last season, Morgan got a love interest and he cont inues to be Garcia’s BFF who is there for her all the time. I’m not saying the quality of his stories have been good, but they actually gave him something.

While Reid is away, it will likely be the “#girlpower” show starring the unsubs and featuring JJ & Tara with the male team members as second stringers. If Reid fans are lucky he *might* get mentioned in the next two episodes. Let’s hope at least one of those mentions is not to insult or mock him.

If you go to PreviouslyTV forums to the statistics spiel thread, it outlines the screentime and dialog amounts for the team members. Only Garcia has had less screentime than Reid in the last few seasons, but she has had more dialog in those scenes than he has.

The writers just don’t know how to balance things and write for the entire team.

This seems like a fan who started watching late, and hasn’t watched every season. You don’t have to get ver y far into S5 to begin to see the change in he writing, and the neglect of Reid. While a person may prefer Morgan, JJ, or whoever, the fact remains that CM’s best ratings and strongest writers were those in S1-S4/5, seasons which featured Reid strongly. It was evident early on the series that the producers/writers realized the gem they had in MGG/Spencer Reid. Heavy focus, a DVD extra in the first season… The newer writers, since S5/6, simply cannot do his genius justice. Where he was once integral to solving nearly every case, he is now ignored/mocked/marginalized and is written largely as a caricature of his former great self.

Why Matthew Gray Gubler puts up with this and continues to show up for the show remains a mystery to me. He is better than that.

I suspect that Matthew actually did want to leave and only stayed out of loyalty. Erica mentioned something about the headaches story for Reid coming about because they thought they were go ing to “lose Matthew” that season– but Matthew’s contract didn’t end until season 7. So either it seemed like CBS might cut him loose early or he might have asked for an out.

Later there was a video interview with Janine, Erica, and Matthew where Janine mentioned something about how Matthew needed to stay on the show– it was like she was asking him to stay in a public way and sort of putting him on the spot. If he said “no” he might have looked bad.

He barely mentioned Reid in interviews for a long time– only said something if he was directly asked about Reid and he even admitted that the show didn’t give him much to work with to show his acting range anymore and he said he felt like he’d only been making fans sad while playing Reid. I got the feeling that he was not happy. He also admitted that he stopped watching the show back in season 5.

He seems MUCH happier now. They might not be giving him any g ood storylines (or any storylines at all), but I think a month off from filming CM was probably a nice little trade-off for them screwing his character over for the past few seasons.

What is the source for this news ? Thank you

The sources that can be disclosed are an amalgam of different photos, sightings, from various social media accounts showing Matthew being in NYC and then Colonial Williamsburg (where he was hanging out with his father) starting just 3 days after filming for episode 8 began up to just before the end of October. Once Matthew was back in LA, BJ Rogers (the wardrobe guru for CM) tweeted that she missed Matthew but that he would be back in episode 11. Matthew was directing a music video for The Killers toward the very end of the month. So, basically he was not on set for the entire month of October.

Maybe someone will be kind enough to dig up the tweets/instagram/facebook posts. My ISP doesn’t give me enough bandwidth to go digging it all up again myself and some sites don’t play nice with my connection. I can barely get Tumblr to load .

Flash vs. Arrow: The Flash 1x08 Review

jbuffyangel:

Oh my friends. My darling, wonderful friends!!! You’ve seen part one and now I can breathe again. Fear of legal retribution is down 50% and I can talk to my beloved fandom about THIS FUCKING INCREDIBLE EPISODE!!!!

Happily I can hang the literary analysis up for a bit. The Flash likes to play it more on the nose than Arrow and this episode was more of a romp. That being said, we’re going to have to take this scene by scene, line by line because each one was GLORIOUS. Hang in there with me because A TON happened. Ready? Let’s do it.

I just started watching these shows so I’m catching up on the fan dom. Love this post!
